The Mitragyna hirsuta tree is found in certain areas of Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, and it is commonly referred to as Kra Thom Kok. It is also known as Krathum in Thailand, where it is primarily used as an alternative to Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa).
Mitraphylline, an oxindole derivative, is an alkaloid found in the large, broad leaves of the tree, which is similar to the active ingredients of Kratom: mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine.
