Kratom Trees for Sale: Growing Your Own Kratom

Why grow your own kratom tree?

There are several reasons to consider growing your own kratom tree. First, it allows you to have a direct connection to the source of your kratom. You'll know exactly how your tree was grown and cared for. Growing your own also ensures a steady, renewable supply of fresh kratom leaves.

Additionally, a kratom tree makes an attractive and unique houseplant. Kratom trees, or Mitragyna speciosa, are tropical evergreens native to Southeast Asia. They can grow quite large in nature but are well-suited to container growth indoors.

What you need to grow a kratom tree

To grow a kratom tree, you'll need:

  • A live kratom tree or kratom seeds
  • A large pot or container (3-5 gallons to start)
  • Well-draining, slightly acidic soil
  • Grow light (if not in a very sunny window)
  • Humidity tray or humidifier
  • Liquid fertilizer
Kratom Tree Care
Light Bright, indirect light
Water Keep soil moist but not soggy
Humidity >60% humidity preferred
Fertilizer Liquid fertilizer every 2 weeks during growing season
Temperature 65-85°F (18-29°C)

Getting started with your kratom tree

Whether you're starting with a young live tree or germinating seeds, the key is to provide a warm, humid environment. Kratom is tropical and will not tolerate cold or dry conditions.

If growing from seed, sow seeds shallowly in moist seed starting mix and place in a warm spot. Keep humidity high by placing a clear plastic dome or bag over the pot until seeds germinate. This can take several weeks.

For live trees, pot in well-draining soil in an appropriately sized container. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Boost humidity by placing the pot on a humidity tray filled with pebbles and water.

Caring for your kratom tree over time

As your kratom tree grows, you'll need to repot into progressively larger containers. A mature tree can be 6 ft. or taller in a 10-20 gallon pot. Prune as needed to control size and shape.

Kratom trees prefer slightly acidic soil (pH 5.5-6.5). If you notice yellowing leaves, your soil may be too alkaline. Top dress with sphagnum peat moss or use an acidic fertilizer to lower pH.

The main pests to watch out for are spider mites, mealybugs, and scale. Regularly inspect your tree and treat promptly if pests appear. Insecticidal soap or neem oil are effective natural treatments.

When and how to harvest kratom leaves

Kratom trees are usually 2-3 years old before leaves are ready to harvest. Look for large, deep green, mature leaves. Harvest individual leaves by snipping leaf stems, leaving the central vein on the tree.

Harvested leaves can be air dried in a warm, dry place out of direct sunlight. Drying usually takes 3-5 days in low humidity. Crush dried leaves by hand or in a coffee grinder to make a powdered leaf for use.

While Mitragyna speciosa is the most well-known, there are a few other Mitragyna species that may be of interest:

Each species has a unique alkaloid profile. However, M. speciosa remains the most popular and studied.
