The broad leaves of the tree contain numerous alkaloids, but the main active constituent in Mitragyna hirsuta is Mitraphylline, which is chemically related to mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, which are found in Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa).
It is also known as Kra Thom Khok and is closely related to Mitragyna Speciosa, so it has a become a popular alternative to Krathum. In Thailand, it is more commonly known as Krathum.
